Personalized 45-minute private piano lessons with Martan Mann, taught entirely through Zoom.

Whether you want to learn jazz and improvisation, develop your understanding of harmony, strengthen your piano technique, or develop your classical piano skills, lessons are tailored to your individual goals and experience.

First Lesson — $50

Regular lessons are $70 for 45 minutes.

What Can You Learn?

My primary specialty is jazz piano and improvisation, and I tailor each lesson to the student’s experience, interests, and goals.

You may want to:

Learn to improvise instead of simply playing the notes on the page
Understand jazz harmony, chords, and chord progressions

Why Study With Martan?

I have been teaching piano for more than 50 years, and my musical background includes both classical piano and jazz.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Music from San Jose State University, where I studied under Aiko Onishi. I have also studied jazz and improvisation with musicians including Wilbert Baranco, Frederic Saatman, Don Haas, Mark Levine, Art Lande, and Kenny Werner.

I am the author of three published books:

My teaching combines the technical foundation of classical piano with the creativity, freedom, and understanding that come from learning to improvise.

How My Lessons Work

We talk first: Before your first lesson, we’ll have a brief phone conversation about your musical background, your experience with piano, and what you’d like to learn.
Your first lesson is $50: Your first 45-minute Zoom lesson gives you an opportunity to experience my teaching and for us to determine how I can best help you.
Lessons are personalized: We work on the skills and music that are appropriate for your experience and goals.
We develop your skills over time: I’ll give you specific things to practice and help you develop a deeper understanding of the music.

Regular lessons are $70 for 45 minutes.
All lessons are taught online through Zoom.
